This is a story of determination. Decades ago, when rumours began to fly that the Alberta government would dismantle the last remnants of Fort Edmonton, impassioned residents got together to endure the legacy of the fur trading post would not be forgotten. Their single-minded passion gave birth to the Fort Edmonton Foundation, which still embodies the spirit of those early champions. The foundation’s persistence, in turn, resulted in Fort Edmonton Park, a living history museum dedicated not just to Fort Edmonton but to all built heritage on this bend in the river-and to the stories of people who lived here in earlier times. Fifty years later, the foundation remains the heart of the park and the guarantor of its continued relevance and integrity.
