Wedding Gifting: the Dos and Don’ts!

By: Jen

Summer may be coming to an end but that doesn’t mean that wedding season is! Choosing the right gift is fun, but can also be a little tricky. We’re here to help with the simple dos and don’ts for picking out an awesome wedding gift for the happy couple in your life.

DO

Are you bringing a plus one? Always spend a little more on the gift seeing as the couple is paying for an extra plate. To keep things simple, combine your money and bring one gift.

Not able to attend the wedding? You should still send a gift with a card congratulating the happy couple. It’s a simple way of saying thank you for the invitation to share their special day.

Is the gift registry looking picked over, not sure what to give them? Giving the gift of cash is always a good idea! It is always a big help for the couple to start off on the right foot, and this extra cash may be put towards a honeymoon, the purchase of a new home, or maybe that big ticket item they didn’t receive.

Always include a gift receipt! Duplicate gifts happen, and this way the couple can exchange one gift for something else.

DON’T

Don’t get hung up on choosing something from the registry when you know the couple on a deeper level. It is ok to go with a gift that is more personal and unique!

If you are purchasing a large gift, don’t bring it to the wedding. Save the couple the hassle of lugging it home and ship it to them directly.

Don’t feel to pressure to spend. Everyone has a budget and needs to work with that. Here is a general guideline when it comes to gift giving.

  • Co-worker or distant friend $50-$75
  • Relative or friend $75-$100
  • Close relative or friend $100-$150
